2022 Toyota RAV4 Preview

For the past 25 years, the Toyota RAV4 has been a best-selling SUV across America and the globe, defining what a crossover vehicle could be. One of the benchmarks of the compact SUV market, the RAV4 combines reliability, dynamic handling, and a supple ride into one efficient package. As America’s best-selling non-pickup passenger vehicle for the past four years, Toyota aims for the RAV4 to retain that distinction through some new updates for the 2022 model year.

The most notable of the changes is a new SE Hybrid trim that is intended for shoppers looking for performance and fuel efficiency in their new SUV. Other updates include a new color called Cavalry Blue along with redesigned wheels. XLE trims and above get redesigned headlamps while higher trims get new LED fog lamps. On the inside, there is now a locking glove box and LED interior lamps while XLE trims and above get illuminated interior switches. The high-end Limited now gets an 8-way power passenger seat as well.

RAV4s will still retain the base 203-horsepower 4-cylinder engine and the upgraded hybrid powertrain, while the plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime (which can provide up to 42 miles of electric-only range) has a 302-horsepower powertrain with standard all-wheel-drive. Shoppers will have many trims to choose from, ranging from base LE, midrange XLE, sport-oriented SE, well-equipped XLE Premium and XSE, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and top-end Limited. With the updates, the 2022 RAV4 will likely remain a popular choice in the always burgeoning compact SUV market.
