The Cherokee, updated in 2019, is an SUV designed to take on some of the toughest off-road trails imaginable. There are three engines to choose from. The base engine is a 2.4-liter 180-horsepower 4-cylinder while those who want a larger motor can choose a 3.2-liter 271-horsepower V-6. A new addition is a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder making 270 horsepower designed for those who want better fuel economy relative to the V-6 but similar power. Buyers can choose from 9 different models: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Upland, Altitude, Limited, High Altitude, Trailhawk, Overland, and Trailhawk Elite. All models except the off-road-oriented Upland, Trailhawk, and Trailhawk Elite are available with the choice of two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. As a Jeep, buyers can specify equipment such as Jeep Active Drive Lock with two-speed power transfer unit, low-range and mechanically locking rear differential for serious off-road work on the Trailhawk model.
